Nagpur Woman Arrested for Marrying Eight Men, Extorting Lakhs of Rupees

A 35-year-old school teacher, identified as Sameera Fatima, has been arrested in Nagpur for allegedly marrying eight men over the past 15 years and extorting large sums of money from them in what police describe as a planned matrimonial fraud.

According to investigators, Fatima posed as a divorced mother and used online matrimonial portals and social media to target mostly wealthy married Muslim men. Police allege she manipulated her victims emotionally, persuaded them into marriage, and later threatened them with legal action, including false court cases, to extort money. Several victims reportedly paid amounts ranging from ₹15 lakh to ₹50 lakh in cash or bank transfers.

Police said Fatima often worked with a network of accomplices and used multiple identities to avoid detection. In some cases, she allegedly faked pregnancies to strengthen her claims and pressure her targets. Among the victims was a senior Reserve Bank of India officer who claimed losses of ₹15 lakh.

Her arrest came after a sting operation involving one of her recent targets, who coordinated with police to lure her to a meeting in the Civil Lines area, where she was taken into custody. Authorities said she was attempting to meet a man who could have become her ninth husband.

An FIR has been registered, and police are now examining Fatima’s digital records, bank accounts, and travel history to trace the full extent of the fraud and identify other possible victims. Investigators are also looking into the involvement of any accomplices who may have helped her carry out the scheme.
