Men Disguised as Seers Steal Gold Rings from Woman in Delhi

Two unidentified men, posing as seers and dressed in saffron robes, allegedly stole two gold rings from a woman near Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi on Monday. The incident occurred in broad daylight and has prompted police to intensify their investigation and public awareness efforts.

According to the police, the woman was walking near Ajni Gate around 12:30 p.m. when the two men approached her. One of the suspects, clad in a saffron kurta and robe, struck up a conversation under the guise of offering blessings. The other man assisted in the act, claiming to perform a ritual involving placing items in her palm.

As part of the deception, the suspects handed the woman two objects and asked her to put them in her pocket. While she was distracted, the men managed to remove the two gold rings she was wearing. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot. The value of the stolen jewelry is estimated to be approximately Rs 1.5 lakh.

The victim immediately reported the theft at the Lajpat Nagar police station. Authorities reviewed CCTV footage from nearby shops and streets and identified the suspects fleeing the area. A search operation has been launched to trace the individuals.

A senior police officer stated that the suspects used religious attire and psychological manipulation to gain the victim’s trust. “The act was carefully planned and executed in a public place, indicating they were monitoring the surroundings,” he said.

Police have appealed to the public to share any information or video footage from the area during the time of the incident. They also advised residents to be cautious of strangers offering unsolicited rituals or blessings.

The incident has raised concerns over a growing trend of thefts involving imposters using religious disguises. Authorities are planning increased patrolling in crowded marketplaces and residential areas to prevent similar crimes.
