Youth Arrested for Sexual Assault and Blackmail in Chandrapur

Chandrapur police have arrested a 22-year-old man on serious charges of sexual assault, blackmail, and distributing intimate videos of a 19-year-old woman without her consent. The case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to police, the accused allegedly coerced the victim into a sexual relationship and secretly recorded intimate videos. He later used these recordings to threaten and intimidate her. When the woman resisted his demands, he allegedly shared the videos online, causing severe emotional trauma and social stigma for the victim.

Authorities have confirmed that the survivor belongs to a Scheduled Tribe community, which resulted in additional charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The POCSO charges were applied after investigators determined that some of the alleged offenses occurred when the victim was still under the age of 18.

Police officials stated that the accused was traced and arrested swiftly after the victim filed a complaint. “We acted promptly to ensure the safety of the survivor and to prevent the further spread of these videos,” said a senior officer from Chandrapur Police. The videos have since been removed from online platforms, and efforts are underway to track any remaining copies.

The survivor is currently receiving counseling and support through local women’s rights organizations, while the police continue their investigation. Legal experts say the combination of charges under the BNS, POCSO, and SC/ST Act reflects the severity of the case and could lead to a lengthy prison sentence if the accused is convicted.

Authorities have urged the public to report such crimes immediately and have reminded citizens that sharing intimate images without consent is a serious criminal offense in India.
