UP Man Disguises Wife’s Murder as Robbery; Arrested

A man in Bareilly has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to disguise the crime as a highway robbery, police officials confirmed. 

Om Saran Maurya, 38, was taken into custody after inconsistencies emerged in his account of the incident. According to authorities, Maurya initially claimed that he and his wife had been attacked by robbers while traveling on a motorcycle. He alleged that the assailants had fatally injured his wife and stolen their belongings.

However, during the investigation, the police noted several contradictions in Maurya’s version of events. Forensic evidence and Maurya’s changing statements raised suspicion, prompting a deeper probe. Officials later discovered that the murder was premeditated and that Maurya had staged the robbery to mislead authorities.

Investigators revealed that the murder was allegedly committed at the behest of Maurya’s lover. He reportedly stopped the motorcycle in a secluded area, attacked his wife, and fled the scene. He then fabricated the story of a robbery to divert attention from his involvement.

The accused is now in judicial custody while police continue to investigate the role of the alleged lover and whether others were involved in the planning of the crime.

This case has drawn public attention and renewed focus on crimes committed due to extramarital affairs and personal disputes. Authorities emphasized that the swift unraveling of the fabricated story was made possible by thorough forensic analysis and interrogation.
