Two Men Arrested for Kidnapping and Murder of 13-Year-Old Boy in Bengaluru

Bengaluru police have arrested two men in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old boy, following an encounter during which both suspects were injured.

The incident began on Wednesday when the boy, identified as Nischith A, went missing while on his way to tuition in Arekere, south Bengaluru. Later that day, his bicycle was found abandoned near a park. Shortly after, his family received a ransom call demanding Rs 5 lakh. The family contacted the police, and a search was launched.

On Thursday, Nischith’s partially burnt body was discovered in a wooded area near Bannerghatta Road, deepening suspicions of foul play. Investigators quickly identified two suspects: Gurumurthy, 27, a former driver of the family, and his associate Gopalakrishna alias Gopi, 25.

Early Friday morning, police traced the suspects to Kaggalipura Road. During the attempted arrest, the two men reportedly attacked police officers with daggers. In response, police fired in self-defence, injuring both suspects in the legs. Gurumurthy sustained bullet wounds in both legs, while Gopi was shot in one leg. Both were taken to the hospital under police custody.

The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges for kidnapping, murder, and assault on law enforcement officers. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if others were involved.

Nischith’s parents, a college lecturer and a tech company employee, are grieving the loss of their only son. The crime has sparked outrage among residents, especially as one of the accused had previously worked in the family’s home, raising concerns about the safety and vetting of domestic workers.

The police have assured the public that all efforts are being made to deliver swift justice in the case.
