A 12-year-old Bangladeshi girl has been rescued from a human trafficking network in Vasai, Maharashtra, after enduring unimaginable abuse at the hands of more than 200 men in just three months. The rescue operation took place on July 26, led by the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, with support from NGOs Exodus Road India Foundation and Harmony Foundation.

According to officials, the girl was first taken to Nadiad in Gujarat, where she was forced into the sex trade and subjected to repeated assaults by hundreds of men. She was later moved to other locations as part of the trafficking network’s operations.

Abraham Mathai, founder-chairman of the Harmony Foundation, condemned the brutality of the crime. “This girl has not even reached her teenage years, but her childhood has been stolen by such monsters in the flesh trade,” he said. Mathai revealed that the victim’s ordeal began when she failed one school subject and, fearing punishment from her strict parents, ran away with a woman she knew. The acquaintance allegedly smuggled her into India and pushed her into prostitution.

Mathai has called for the arrest of all 200 men involved in the abuse, stressing that justice must be delivered for the victim.

Police Commissioner Niket Kaushik said the MBVV Police is committed to dismantling the trafficking ring. “We are using our full force to unearth the entire network and ensure a safe environment for vulnerable adolescents,” he stated. Ten suspects have already been arrested, and authorities are tracking down others connected to the crime.

The rescued girl is currently in the care of the Child Welfare Committee and is receiving medical treatment and psychological counseling. Officials are also coordinating with the Bangladeshi consulate to ensure her safety and plan her rehabilitation.Human rights groups say this case shows the urgent need for stronger anti-trafficking measures, stricter border controls, and harsher penalties for perpetrators. Investigations remain ongoing, with more arrests expected in the coming weeks.
