Suspect Detained in Horrific Tiruvallur Child Assault Case

In a major development, the Tamil Nadu police have detained a man from West Bengal who is suspected to be behind the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Tiruvallur district. The incident, which occurred two weeks ago, had triggered widespread outrage and sparked a massive manhunt.

According to Inspector General of Police Asra Garg, the detained man’s clothes match the CCTV footage and videos that showed the alleged perpetrator following and picking up the young victim. The police are currently interrogating the suspect to gather more evidence and details about the crime.

“This is a significant breakthrough in the case. We are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and her family,” Garg stated.

The police had earlier released the CCTV visuals, which played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. Authorities had also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for any credible information that could lead to the man’s arrest.

The case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and multiple special teams were formed to track down the accused. Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai had earlier urged swift action, warning that the suspect roaming around posed a threat to society.

The Tamil Nadu police and the ruling DMK government have faced criticism from the opposition AIADMK over the rising incidents of crime against women and children. However, officials have pointed to the swift action taken in this case and the recent convictions in other high-profile sexual assault cases as evidence of their commitment to ensuring justice.
