The Indian Army’s Spear Corps has concluded a two-week Vocational Training and Internship Program in Dimapur, Nagaland, aimed at equipping local youth with practical skills for employment and self-reliance. Sixty students from the Nagaland Toolroom and Training Centre (NTTC) participated in the initiative, which focused on hands-on training in trades including welding, mechanics, electrical work, painting, and vehicle electrics.

Targeting individuals aged 18 to 25, the program combined technical instruction with practical application, allowing trainees to work on innovative projects and live demonstrations. The approach not only enhanced their trade skills but also fostered problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and creativity.

Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Spear Corps, attended the closing ceremony and commended the students for their dedication and craftsmanship. He encouraged them to maintain high standards in every endeavor, saying, “Strive for excellence in all endeavors, no matter how big or small.”

The initiative reflects the Indian Army’s broader commitment to nation-building through youth engagement, particularly in the North East. By offering vocational training, the program helps create pathways to employment, encourages entrepreneurship, and supports the vision of a skilled and self-reliant India.

In addition to its economic benefits, the program contributes to stronger civil-military relations, underscoring the Army’s role beyond defense, acting as an active partner in social and economic development. The participants, returning to their communities with new capabilities, are expected to contribute both to local industries and broader developmental goals.

The Spear Corps’ sustained focus on community-oriented projects highlights how defense institutions can play a pivotal role in bridging skill gaps, fostering economic independence, and promoting stability in strategically important regions. For Nagaland’s youth, this training marks not just the acquisition of technical skills but also the development of confidence and ambition to pursue meaningful careers.
