A local leader of the Samajwadi Party’s youth wing has been arrested along with ten others, including his wife and brother, for allegedly being involved in a fraud racket involving counterfeit currency and real estate scams in Ayodhya. The accused, Raja Maan Singh, serves as the national secretary of the Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha and is also a member of the district panchayat.

According to Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover, the group is accused of luring individuals into fraudulent land and housing investment deals and then threatening them when they demanded their money back. In many cases, victims were pressured into silence after being defrauded of significant amounts.

Police raids conducted at Singh’s residence led to the seizure of ₹8 lakh in cash, some of which is suspected to be counterfeit. Authorities also recovered fake documents related to real estate transactions. Preliminary investigations suggest that the group targeted several residents in and around Ayodhya by promising high returns on real estate investments. When the promised properties did not materialize, victims were allegedly threatened to prevent them from reporting the fraud.

The arrested individuals include Singh’s wife, his brother, and other associates believed to have assisted in facilitating the scam. Police have registered a case under various sections related to cheating, criminal conspiracy, and possession of counterfeit currency. Investigators are now working to trace the network of buyers who may have been defrauded by the group and are reviewing the financial transactions of the accused.

Parasnath Yadav, the Samajwadi Party’s Ayodhya district president, confirmed that Raja Maan Singh is affiliated with the party and currently holds a leadership position in the youth wing. The party has not yet issued an official statement regarding the arrest or Singh’s status within the organization.

Officials have said that further raids and arrests may follow as the investigation expands. Authorities are also examining whether the counterfeit currency was circulated locally or linked to a larger operation.
