Pune Techie Booked for Filing False Rape Complaint, Falsifying Evidence

In a major development, Pune Police have registered a case against a 22-year-old woman working in the IT sector for allegedly lodging a false rape complaint and fabricating evidence to mislead law enforcement.

Earlier this month, the woman had accused a man of posing as a delivery executive and entering her apartment in the Kondhwa area under the pretext of delivering a parcel. She claimed the accused sprayed her with an unknown chemical to render her unconscious and then sexually assaulted her. The complaint also alleged that the man clicked a selfie on her mobile phone and threatened to release it.

However, an extensive investigation by the Pune Police, involving over 500 hours of CCTV footage and analysis of call records and mobile phone data, revealed that the accused was not a stranger but a friend of the complainant. The evidence showed that he had entered the premises with her consent, and there were no signs of forced entry or any chemical use, contrary to her claims. Authorities also discovered that the selfie cited in the complaint was taken voluntarily and not under duress.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that the case was based on fabricated details and that the woman had deliberately tried to mislead the police. “It was not a case of rape. The allegations were found to be false. Appropriate legal action is being taken,” Kumar said.

Following the findings, the woman has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for furnishing false information to a public servant and for fabricating evidence.

The case has triggered broader conversations around the responsible use of legal provisions and the potential damage false allegations can inflict, both on individuals and the credibility of genuine cases. Police officials emphasized the importance of verifying facts and urged citizens to refrain from misusing the legal system. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the alleged false complaint.
