Pro-Khalistan Graffiti Injured in Police Encounter During Weapon Recovery in Amritsar

A 22-year-old man accused of painting pro-Khalistan graffiti at several locations in Amritsar was injured during a police encounter while allegedly attempting to retrieve a concealed weapon.

The incident occurred after police arrested Jashanpreet Singh, a resident of Dargabad village near Batala, for his involvement in defacing public walls with separatist slogans. Authorities stated that the graffiti appeared earlier this month at multiple sites, including the walls of the historic Shivala Temple.

According to the police, Jashanpreet had revealed during interrogation that he had hidden a Glock 9mm pistol. When officers took him to the location for recovery, he reportedly attempted to open fire. Despite being warned to surrender, he continued shooting at the officers, prompting them to retaliate. He was shot in the leg during the exchange and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

A new case has been registered at the Airport police station following the encounter. Investigations are ongoing to trace the full network behind the graffiti, including suspected links to handlers based abroad.

Authorities suspect that the act was orchestrated under the direction of individuals connected to banned separatist groups, including the US-based Sikhs for Justice. Officials are working to identify foreign-based collaborators believed to be involved in promoting anti-national activities.
