“Only When His Child Is Taken Will He Understand”: Lt Vinay Narwal’s Father Speaks Out

Rajesh Narwal, the father of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, has said that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir will understand his pain only when someone harms Munir’s own child.

Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, 26, was on his honeymoon with his wife Himanshi when terrorists opened fire in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. He was among the 26 victims who lost their lives in the attack.

Speaking to the media, Rajesh Narwal shared the emotional toll the tragedy has taken on his family. “Munir will only understand my pain the day his son or daughter is harmed,” he said. “If I, an ordinary person, were to shoot his child, then he would know our pain.”

Vinay Narwal had joined the Indian Navy through the Services Selection Board and was commissioned two years ago. His remains were brought to his hometown in Haryana and laid to rest with full military honors on April 23.

Describing the trauma, Rajesh said, “I can’t even cry in front of my family. No one is able to sleep more than two or three hours. Our minds are in complete blackout.” He added that he is trying to stay strong for the sake of his wife and parents.

On July 18, the United States designated The Resistance Front, suspected to be behind the Pahalgam attack, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. While Rajesh welcomed the move, he emphasized that mere sanctions are not enough. He called for concrete action to prevent such groups from operating and causing harm to innocent people.

Rajesh Narwal’s comments have drawn attention to the personal losses suffered by families of armed forces personnel and the urgent need for accountability in cross-border terrorism cases.
