A 32-year-old man from Vasai West has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 61-year-old stepmother after she refused to give him money to play an online game. The victim’s husband, aged 65, has also been taken into custody for allegedly helping cover up the crime.

According to police, the incident took place on July 26. The victim, Arshia Khusru, was initially believed to have died in a fall. Her family conducted the last rites without a post-mortem. However, further investigation led police to suspect foul play.

During questioning, the accused, Imran Khusru, confessed to assaulting his stepmother after she denied his demand for ₹1.8 lakh to spend on an online game. He reportedly banged her head against a wall and kicked her repeatedly, leading to her death. He then stole her jewellery and attempted to mislead family members.

His father, Amir Ismail Khusru, is accused of cleaning the crime scene and arranging a false death certificate to avoid a medical examination. The police have charged both individuals with murder, destruction of evidence, theft, and criminal conspiracy.

Authorities highlighted the danger of unaddressed digital addiction and the importance of legal procedures like post-mortem examinations in cases of sudden death. The case is under further investigation, and the accused are scheduled to appear in court soon.
