Mobile and Blood Forensics Confirm Role of Three in Kolkata Law College Rape Case

Two critical forensic reports have confirmed the involvement of the three prime accused in the rape case at Kolkata Law College, strengthening the police investigation considerably. One report analyzed the mobile phone of the main accused, Monojit Mishra, while the second studied blood samples collected from the guard room where the assault took place. Authorities say the findings provide solid evidence against Mishra as the perpetrator and identify Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee as facilitators.

According to police sources, the forensic data extracted from Mishra’s mobile phone not only points to his role in the recent attack, but also suggests involvement in similar incidents in the past. The blood sample analysis matched the physical presence of Mishra, Ahmed, and Mukherjee at the crime scene, thus anchoring the forensic link firmly.

Investigators have recorded statements from over 60 witnesses whose accounts align with the evidence. CCTV footage from inside the college reportedly shows the accused dragging the student into the guard room, where the assault allegedly occurred. A gait-pattern analysis comparing surveillance footage with the accused’s body movements further supports the prosecution’s case.

Earlier in the investigation, law enforcement collected DNA samples, assault weapons, including a hockey stick, and clothing worn by the accused and the survivor. The survivor testified that one of the accused assaulted her with a hockey stick inside the guard room and recorded the incident on video. Her detailed account matched the recovered items and physical evidence.

The police formed a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to oversee the probe. The SIT reviewed CCTV footage, mobile and digital data, and examined the possibility of tampering with college records. Authorities also seized hard drives containing footage and performed handwriting analysis regarding entries in the college register.

All three prime accused, Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20), along with campus security guard Pinaki Banerjee (55), were remanded in judicial custody until August 5 after the state requested extended custody. The court granted this to allow the forensic evidence to be fully integrated into the investigation.

Prosecutors argue that the accumulated forensic and testimonial evidence will allow the state to build a strong and airtight case. Defense lawyers have raised concerns over access to legal counsel and questioned the handling of witness statements. Meanwhile, public pressure and media scrutiny have continued to grow since the initial arrests.
