Manipur Poll Officials Engage Political Parties Across Six Districts Ahead of Voter List Revision

Election officials in Manipur have initiated a major outreach campaign across six districts as part of preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The revision is scheduled to begin later this year, with January 1, 2026, set as the qualifying date for voter eligibility.

Meetings were held in Noney, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, Thoubal, and the assembly segments of Hiyanglam and Sugnoo in Kakching. These sessions involved discussions with political party representatives on key aspects such as the rationalisation of polling stations, the appointment of booth-level agents, and the clarification of accepted voter identification documents.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ramananda Nongmeikapam chaired a state-level review meeting in Imphal on July 25. He announced that house-to-house verification had already commenced in select constituencies, including Keirao, Thongju, and Moirang, and that training for booth-level officers and supervisors is ongoing.

Officials also assured political parties that inputs from local stakeholders would be taken seriously to ensure an inclusive and transparent voter list revision. Concerns were raised about limited access to Aadhaar and other identification documents in certain remote and tribal areas. In response, election officers clarified that 11 alternate documents are accepted for voter verification.

The initiative is viewed as a proactive step by the Election Commission to ensure accurate voter data ahead of elections. With Manipur currently under President’s Rule and facing complex demographic challenges, officials are aiming for high levels of transparency and cooperation from all political and community stakeholders.
