Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha Faces Double Voter ID Allegations, EC Issues Notice

The Election Commission has issued a notice to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, asking him to respond by August 14 regarding allegations that he possesses two voter ID cards under different electoral rolls.

The matter came to light after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav accused Sinha of holding voter IDs in both the Lakhisarai and Bankipur assembly constituencies. Yadav further claimed that there were discrepancies in the details provided in the two electoral records, including a variation in age, with one ID listing Sinha as 57 and the other as 60.

The Election Registration Officer (ERO) of Bankipur has asked Sinha to explain why his name appears in both constituencies’ electoral rolls. The development comes after the recently concluded Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Responding to the allegations, Sinha denied any wrongdoing. He stated that he had applied for the deletion of his name from the Bankipur voter list as early as April 2024 and had submitted a fresh application recently. According to him, copies of these applications were sent to the Booth Level Officer, and he has retained the receipts. Sinha asserted that he has only ever voted from Lakhisarai and described the accusations as politically motivated.

Tejashwi Yadav questioned whether the Election Commission would treat the issue impartially and pursue action. He criticized the state government and raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process in Bihar.
