Kaynes Technology Subsidiary to Invest ₹4,995 Crore in Tamil Nadu Electronics Plant

Kaynes Technology India’s subsidiary, Kaynes Circuits India, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to invest ₹4,995 crore in a new manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi. The project will focus on producing high-end electronic components, marking the state’s first large-scale venture into printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication.

The upcoming facility will manufacture a variety of advanced electronics, including 74-layer PCBs, high-density interconnect (HDI) PCBs, flexible PCBs, high-performance laminates, camera module assemblies, and wire harness systems. The initiative is part of Tamil Nadu’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading electronics manufacturing hub, alongside existing industrial zones in Sriperumbudur and Hosur.

The investment is expected to create around 4,700 jobs in Thoothukudi and nearby districts, boosting local employment and supporting the development of a robust electronics ecosystem in the region. Officials noted that the project could also pave the way for new industrial clusters linking advanced electronics with sectors such as electric vehicles and power systems.

Industry experts said the move aligns with the central government’s push to strengthen domestic electronics manufacturing through its electronics component production scheme. The focus is on shifting from basic assembly operations to high-value manufacturing that includes PCBs and other critical sub-assemblies.

The ₹4,995 crore investment, estimated at about $570 million, will be deployed over six years to expand production capacity and support future projects in advanced electronics.

This MoU represents a significant milestone for both Kaynes Technology and Tamil Nadu, potentially transforming Thoothukudi into a key destination for high-tech manufacturing while reducing India’s dependence on imported electronic components.
