A 24-year-old woman from Hyderabad has been arrested in Dubai after authorities found narcotics in her baggage upon arrival. Ameena Begum, a resident of Kishan Bagh, reportedly travelled to Dubai on May 18 after being promised a job at a beauty parlour.

According to family members, the job offer was arranged through a local agent who also provided her flight and travel documents. Upon landing in Dubai, customs officials conducted a search of her belongings and discovered drugs hidden in a bag she was carrying. Ameena was taken into custody immediately and is currently lodged in a UAE prison.

Her mother, Sultana Begum, has written to the Ministry of External Affairs and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, pleading for intervention. In her letter, she claimed her daughter was unaware of the bag’s contents and was likely used as a drug mule by unknown individuals. The family has urged Indian authorities to assist in securing her release and to investigate the role of the travel agent.

Ameena, who has a five-year-old son, had taken the opportunity abroad to provide for her family following a separation from her husband. Her family stated that she contacted them after the arrest, expressing shock and asserting her innocence. According to them, she was told to deliver the bag to someone in Dubai but had no idea it contained illegal substances.

This case has raised alarm over the increasing number of women being lured by overseas job offers and unknowingly becoming involved in drug trafficking. Families and legal experts are calling for stricter scrutiny of international recruitment agents and better awareness campaigns to prevent such incidents.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE has yet to release an official statement regarding Ameena’s case. However, advocacy groups are urging immediate diplomatic action to ensure due process and humane treatment.

Ameena’s family continues to seek support from government agencies and hopes that the matter will be resolved through diplomatic and legal channels. They remain hopeful that she will be proven innocent and safely repatriated to India.
