Drug Cartel Busted With Narcotics Worth ₹100 Crore in Delhi; Two Arrested

The Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted a massive international drug syndicate operating in the capital, seizing narcotics worth over ₹100 crore and arresting two key operatives. The haul is considered one of the biggest narcotics recoveries in the city in recent years.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Umar Khan and Taufiq, both hailing from Mewat in Haryana. According to senior police officials, the accused were acting as couriers for a major cross-border drug cartel with ties to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The narcotics seized included 20 kilograms of high-grade heroin and six kilograms of opium, smuggled into India through Jammu and Kashmir. The total estimated value of the seized drugs in the international market is over ₹100 crore.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajiv Ranjan Singh, the operation was the result of extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering over several weeks. “We received credible information about the movement of a large consignment of narcotics from Jammu to Delhi. Based on this, we set up a trap near the Singhu border where the suspects were intercepted,” he said.

The accused were found traveling in a vehicle with concealed compartments that stored the narcotics. Police say the packaging bore markings commonly associated with Pakistani and Afghan drug networks. Interrogation of the suspects revealed that they were recruited by handlers based abroad and had made multiple similar trips in the past.

This crackdown is part of Delhi Police’s ongoing efforts to curb the influx of narcotics into the national capital. Officials believe the syndicate was preparing to distribute the seized drugs through an established network of peddlers across Delhi-NCR and other metros.

Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are currently tracing the funding and broader network linked to the cartel. More arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
