The Special Staff of the Delhi Police has dismantled an interstate firearms syndicate with the arrest of a key member in Sarita Vihar. Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended Amit Kumar, 29, from near the Kos Minar roundabout in Jasola and recovered a substantial cache of weapons from his possession.

A resident of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, Kumar was found carrying 10 semi-automatic pistols of .32 bore, 20 live cartridges, and 17 magazines, of which seven were extra. He was on his way to deliver the illegal arms to a contact in Delhi-NCR when he was intercepted by the police.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari, Kumar is part of a larger network of arms traffickers who procure illegal weapons from Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh, known for its illicit gun manufacturing units. Kumar has reportedly supplied over 150 pistols in the past two years to various criminals operating in Delhi and surrounding areas.

Kumar told investigators that he initially began as a courier in the syndicate but eventually started managing his own delivery network. The weapons were purchased at a cost of Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per unit and sold for Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 each, indicating a significant profit margin. He had been working independently for the last six months.

Police said Kumar used concealed compartments in his luggage to avoid detection and frequently changed his routes. The arms were delivered to gang members across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.

A case has been registered under the Arms Act at Sarita Vihar police station. The arrest and seizure come amid increased vigilance in the national capital ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Police continue to investigate the broader network and are working to identify Kumar’s associates and suppliers.
