Delhi Police Arrest Convicted Father After Four-Year Parole Escape

Delhi Police have apprehended a 70-year-old man who had been evading custody for four years after being granted parole. Identified as Hamidullah Bundu Khan, the convict had previously been sentenced to 20 years in prison for poisoning his two young daughters and attempting to kill a third.

The crime occurred in July 1999 when Khan allegedly gave his three daughters capsules disguised as medicine for stomachache. According to police, the eldest daughter suspected foul play, pretended to take the capsule, and alerted neighbours after witnessing her younger sisters fall severely ill. The younger children died, while she survived and reported the incident to authorities. He was convicted under sections related to murder, attempted murder, and causing grievous harm using poison.

Khan was granted parole during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 but failed to return to prison upon release, remaining at large for four years. After sustained intelligence efforts and surveillance, Delhi’s Crime Branch located and arrested him at his residence in Loni, Ghaziabad. Police noted that he had frequently changed hideouts and avoided contact while on the run.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam confirmed that the arrest followed detailed intelligence analysis. Now rearrested, Khan is expected to be returned to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.

The case is a rare example of a serious crime involving minors stemming from familial murder and highlights vulnerabilities in parole systems. Authorities emphasized that the police would pursue legal recourse to prevent future breaches and ensure stringent controls over parole procedures.
