Three Arrested in Indore for Robbery and Assault on LGBT+ Devotional Singer

Police in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, have arrested three men in connection with the assault and robbery of a 28-year-old devotional singer belonging to the LGBT+ community. The suspects identified as Rohit Savle, 23, Sumit Sitole, 19, and Sawan Solanki, 19, were taken into custody following a swift investigation that led to the recovery of the victim’s stolen scooter and mobile phone.

According to police reports, the incident took place after the victim met the accused at the Sarwate bus stand and offered them a ride on his scooter. The suspects allegedly persuaded the singer to drive toward the GNT Market area, where they physically assaulted him before fleeing with his scooter and mobile phone.

Authorities launched an immediate search after receiving information that the suspects intended to sell the stolen mobile phone. Acting on this tip, officers tracked the accused, apprehended them, and recovered all stolen property. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Dishesh Agrawal confirmed the arrests and stated that the case remains under investigation to determine whether there are other accomplices or related incidents.

Police have indicated that the accused will face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for robbery and assault. Officials are also examining whether any provisions related to crimes targeting individuals on the basis of identity or community status could apply in this case.

The incident has drawn attention from local advocacy groups, who have condemned the attack and called for thorough legal action. Law enforcement officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, particularly in transport hubs such as bus stands, where criminals may seek vulnerable targets.
