Rajasthan Student Jumps from College Hostel, Parents Alleged Drugging and Harassment

A first-year MBA student at Banasthali Vidyapeeth, a fully residential women’s university in Tonk, attempted suicide by jumping off her hostel parapet, prompting her parents to file an FIR alleging she was drugged and harassed by peers.

A video circulating widely on social media shows the student in the college corridor before climbing onto and then leaping from the hostel roof. She survived the fall and is now under medical care at home in Haryana, where her parents have brought her for treatment. The student had joined the university on July 17.

In their FIR, her parents claimed she was given drugs in her cold drink and cake during a hostel celebration. They said she later informed them of being filmed in compromising situations, which was being used to allegedly blackmail her into submission. The parents also accused other students of ragging and physical harassment, which they said contributed to her mental distress. At the time of admission, she reportedly underwent a medical examination and was judged to be in good health.

According to police inspector Ramji Lal Verma, preliminary reports suggest ragging of the newcomer may have triggered the breakdown. The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has asked the district administration to investigate all aspects of the case. District Collector Kalpana Aggarwal confirmed that inquiries are ongoing.

The university has yet to issue an official statement responding to the allegations. However, authorities in Tonk have launched an internal probe into the incident. Meanwhile, student groups and parents have raised concerns about campus safety protocols, especially in fully residential institutions.
