NSG Jawan Killed in Hit-and-Run Incident in Delhi, Driver Arrested

A 35-year-old National Security Guard (NSG) jawan was killed in a hit-and-run accident earlier this month in South West Delhi’s R K Puram. Police have arrested the suspected driver, a 30-year-old man identified as Pawan Kumar Chauhan, after nearly three weeks of investigation.

The incident took place on the morning of July 9 along the service road of Rao Tula Ram Marg near Sector 8. A police patrol team responded to a call about an injured man lying on the roadside. The victim was later identified as Narender Singh, who served with the NSG. He was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries.

With no eyewitnesses at the scene, police launched a probe by scanning CCTV footage from multiple locations around the Outer Ring Road. Investigators identified a white Maruti Ertiga as the vehicle involved in the crash. The vehicle was traced to a resident of Delhi, who informed police that it had been driven by Chauhan, his employee.

After Chauhan failed to respond to repeated calls and messages, police teams visited his last known address in Noida. He had gone into hiding, prompting police to circulate his photograph across informant networks.

On July 24, police received a tip-off that Chauhan was in the Rajokri area. A team conducted a raid and arrested him. The vehicle involved in the accident was also recovered.

During interrogation, Chauhan allegedly confessed that he was returning from a trip to Haridwar with his family on the day of the incident. Near RTR Marg, he said he fell asleep at the wheel and accidentally hit Singh. Fearing arrest, he panicked and fled the scene, later abandoning his family in Noida to avoid detection.

Chauhan has been booked under sections related to rash driving and causing death due to negligence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is ongoing.

Police officials said the case highlights the dangers of driver fatigue and the need for greater accountability in hit-and-run incidents. Authorities are also reviewing possible compensation and support for the deceased jawan’s family.
