Woman and Child Killed by Speeding Truck Near Hospital in Maharashtra

A woman and a four-year-old boy were killed after being hit by a speeding truck near a hospital in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, on Thursday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred outside the main gate of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, police officials confirmed.

The victims were identified as 35-year-old Soni Bano, a resident of the Shantinagar area, and her young relative. They had reportedly gone to the hospital to visit Bano’s brother, who was undergoing treatment. The accident took place as they were crossing the road near the hospital.

According to authorities, the truck was traveling at a high speed when it struck both victims. Soni Bano died on the spot due to the impact. The child was immediately rushed to the Thane Civil Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Local police have detained the truck driver and seized the vehicle involved in the accident. A case has been registered under charges of rash and negligent driving. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings and taking statements from eyewitnesses to determine the exact sequence of events.

A senior police official stated that the truck was moving at an unsafe speed in a zone that typically has high pedestrian traffic. He urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, particularly near hospitals and schools where sudden pedestrian movement is common.

The incident has sparked grief and anger in the local community. Residents have raised concerns over poor traffic regulation and the lack of speed control measures near public facilities. Many have called for the installation of speed breakers and stricter monitoring of heavy vehicles in densely populated areas.
