The Haryana government, under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, is preparing to implement the much-anticipated Lado-Lakshmi Yojana, a flagship welfare scheme aimed at empowering women through direct financial support.

Announced earlier this year in the state budget for 2025-26, the scheme proposes a monthly assistance of ₹2,100 to eligible women across the state. With a substantial budget allocation of ₹5,000 crore, the Lado-Lakshmi Yojana seeks to improve the financial standing of women, particularly from low-income and marginalized families.

CM Saini reiterated his administration’s commitment to the scheme during a recent cabinet meeting, emphasizing that it will be rolled out soon. “We are finalizing the implementation framework and eligibility norms. Once completed, the scheme will begin disbursing funds directly to beneficiaries,” he said.

The financial aid will be delivered through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to ensure transparency and efficiency. Women aged 18 and above, especially those from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households, are expected to be the primary beneficiaries.

In addition to monthly financial assistance, the scheme includes provisions for interest-free loans of up to ₹1 lakh for women involved in agriculture, dairy, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, aiming to support self-employment and rural entrepreneurship.

The Lado-Lakshmi Yojana was among the key promises made by the BJP-led government during the 2024 state assembly elections. With pressure mounting from the Opposition, particularly the Congress, to expedite its implementation, the Saini government has assured that groundwork is well underway.

Opposition parties have called for transparency in the rollout timeline. In response, the Chief Minister’s Office stated that a detailed set of guidelines and criteria will be released shortly, and beneficiary identification will begin at the district level.

The scheme, once operational, will position Haryana among a handful of Indian states to implement a large-scale, gender-specific financial support program aimed at enhancing women’s economic participation and autonomy.
