Bomb Threat at Amritsar Airport Triggers Security Alert Days After Golden Temple Scare

A bomb threat was reported at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar on Monday, just days after similar threats were issued against the Golden Temple. The anonymous phone call prompted immediate security measures and an ongoing investigation by law enforcement agencies.

According to officials, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the origin of the threatening call. Authorities heightened surveillance around the airport, deployed additional personnel, and increased drone monitoring in light of the recent threats.

This latest scare follows a series of threatening emails sent to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), claiming that explosives like RDX had been planted near the Golden Temple. These messages triggered widespread concern among devotees and local residents, leading to tightened security around the religious site.

Senior police officials confirmed that there is no confirmation of any actual explosive device at the airport. However, given the sensitive timing and previous threats, precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of travelers and airport staff.

While operations at the airport continue under close supervision, passengers have been advised to cooperate with enhanced security protocols. All baggage and cargo are being subjected to additional screening as part of standard safety procedures.

The developments have led to political criticism. Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla questioned the absence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Amritsar, urging him to take direct responsibility for maintaining peace and order. “It is the joint duty of the state and central government to ensure that religious and public institutions remain secure,” Aujla said.

The Punjab Police, in coordination with central intelligence agencies, is currently investigating any possible connection between the airport bomb threat and the earlier threats to the Golden Temple. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of a coordinated campaign intended to create panic.

Security officials have urged the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to authorities as investigations continue.
