A 55-year-old serial sex offender, identified as Manu Subhash, was shot dead by Uttar Pradesh Police in an encounter in the Mohammadabad area of Farrukhabad district early Friday morning. Subhash had multiple criminal charges against him, including murder, kidnapping, and repeat sexual assault, authorities confirmed.

Police began a 20-day manhunt after a teenager went missing from Mainpuri’s Devipur village on June 27. Her body was found the following day, and CCTV footage showed Subhash cycling with the girl, prompting a coordinated police effort across two districts.

During Friday’s operation, a 19-member Special Operations Group (SOG) team tracked Subhash to a forested area near the Khatu Shyam temple on Bewar Road. Police Superintendent Arti Singh stated that Subhash opened fire when confronted, forcing officers to shoot in self-defense. He was injured in the exchange and declared dead at a local hospital.

Police recovered a pistol, ammunition, cash, and documents from Subhash. He was a registered serial offender with cases dating back to 1999, including murder and abduction, and had resumed targeting minors after his release in 2023. Authorities confirmed he had allegedly assaulted at least eight girls aged 9 to 15.

Superintendent Singh noted that the police operation involved coordination between Farrukhabad and Mainpuri law enforcement, with aerial surveillance and detailed witness testimonies contributing to the suspect’s capture. The manhunt was led by senior officials from the Kanpur zone, including ADG Alok Singh and IG Harish Chandra.

The encounter brought relief to the victim’s family. Her father said, “Police have given justice to my daughter. No punishment less than death is suitable for such a criminal.”

Subhash had been wanted with a ₹1 lakh reward for his arrest, according to police records. Cases against him included charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, murder, kidnapping, and violations of the Arms Act. Officials confirmed that Standard Operating Procedures for encounters were followed, and that the case will undergo further review under legal protocols.
