Andhra Pradesh Woman Fatally Stabbed by Live-in Partner After Refusing Prostitution Demand

A 24-year-old woman was tragically murdered in Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh, allegedly by her live-in partner, following her refusal to engage in commercial sex work. The incident, which also left her brother injured, occurred on Wednesday, July 16, around 10:30 PM, escalating from a domestic dispute.

According to police reports, the victim, whose name has been identified as Pushpa by some local media, had been in a live-in relationship with the accused, Sheikh Shamma, a mechanic from Vijayawada, for the past six to eight months. She had reportedly separated from her husband after childbirth. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) S. Murlimohan stated that the primary motive behind the brutal attack was the woman’s alleged refusal to comply with Shamma’s demands that she enter the sex trade.

On the night of the incident, the woman was at her mother’s house, where her brother and the accused were also present. A heated argument reportedly broke out when Shamma pressured her to engage in prostitution. When the woman’s mother and brother intervened, they were also attacked, sustaining minor injuries. During the escalating confrontation, as the woman attempted to protect her family, Shamma allegedly stabbed her fatally in the chest and thighs.

Police quickly initiated an investigation into the heinous crime. DSP S. Murlimohan confirmed that the accused, who is also reported to be an alcoholic and frequently suspected the woman of infidelity, is currently absconding. Authorities have registered a case against Sheikh Shamma under Sections 103 (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.

The incident underscores serious concerns regarding domestic violence and exploitation within relationships. Law enforcement is actively pursuing the accused, aiming to bring him to justice for the violent act. The case highlights the critical need for continued vigilance and support systems for individuals facing coercive demands and threats to their safety within personal relationships.
