Crime Against Women Increasing in Jabalpur, Officials Highlight Repeat Offenders as Key Concern

Jabalpur is witnessing a concerning rise in crimes against women, including incidents of murder, molestation, rape, and robberies. Recent data and multiple reports suggest that residents, especially women, no longer feel safe within the city, even in their own homes.

According to officials, a significant reason behind the increasing crime rate is the presence of more than 10,000 repeat offenders within the district. This troubling figure has been documented over the past five years, highlighting the challenges faced by local law enforcement in tackling habitual criminal behavior.

Between 2022 and 2024, the city recorded 113 cases of rape and 142 cases of molestation. The disappearance of special police units such as the Code Red Police and the Shakti Task Force, which were specifically tasked with protecting women in public spaces, has also contributed to the growing sense of insecurity.

Local residents have expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation. Many believe the absence of these targeted security patrols has emboldened offenders, making it harder for women to navigate public spaces without fear.

Officials are now being urged to reintroduce dedicated safety measures and increase surveillance in vulnerable areas. Strengthening the legal framework to address repeat offenses is also being discussed as a necessary step to curb the rise in crimes and restore public confidence.
