A 19‑year‑old Dalit woman was allegedly gang‑raped by five men in a forested area near Churhat in Sidhi district, Madhya Pradesh. Police said the incident took place when the survivor and a male companion were traveling together and were reportedly confronted by the accused. The companion was beaten unconscious, after which the perpetrators allegedly assaulted the young woman.

The survivor managed to reach the authorities and report the crime, following which a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
