CRPF Officer Breaks Down Over Alleged Police Inaction in Tamil Nadu Burglary Case

A woman serving in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has accused Tamil Nadu police of inaction following a burglary at her family’s home in Vellore. In a widely circulated video, the officer, identified as 32-year-old Kalavathi, is seen in uniform, emotionally recounting the incident and claiming that the authorities failed to respond despite repeated appeals.

According to Kalavathi, the burglary occurred on June 24 at her residence in Narayanapuram village. Her parents, both daily wage workers, were away at the time. She said that burglars stole 22 sovereigns of gold jewelry, Rs 50,000 in cash, and a silk saree intended for her upcoming wedding. She alleged that the local police did not file a First Information Report (FIR) until June 28, four days after the crime.

In the video, Kalavathi says, “No one is taking up the case. I’ve tried everything.” The clip has gone viral on social media, drawing public sympathy and prompting discussions about police accountability.

However, the Vellore District Police refuted her claims. Officials stated that the incident actually took place in late July and that an FIR was filed immediately based on a complaint lodged by Kalavathi’s father. They added that forensic procedures were delayed because the crime scene had been disturbed by family members before the police arrived.

Investigators said they are reviewing CCTV footage and have collected fingerprint samples as part of the ongoing probe. The police emphasized that the case is being handled with due seriousness and urged the family to cooperate fully in the investigation.

The video has sparked outrage among netizens and prompted calls from various quarters for better support mechanisms for law enforcement personnel dealing with personal crises while serving in remote or conflict-prone regions.
