Man Dies at Haryana De-addiction Center, Family Alleges Foul Play

A 31-year-old man died while undergoing treatment at a private de-addiction center in Ambala, Haryana, with his family alleging he was beaten to death. The man, who had been at the center for approximately two months, was pronounced dead at a local Community Health Centre on Saturday night.

The family was reportedly informed about the death late Saturday evening and was asked to meet the center’s officials at the Community Health Centre in Chourmastpur. A relative who saw the body claimed there were “marks of severe beating with sticks” and “cuts on his hand with a sharp weapon,” which led them to believe foul play was involved. The family also alleged that the man was tied with ropes and beaten, which they believe was the cause of his death.

Upon visiting the de-addiction center the next morning, the family found the facility abandoned, with both the operator and the staff having fled. This prompted them to file a formal police complaint, leading to the registration of a case against 10 individuals, including the center’s operator.

SHO of Naggal Police Station, Karnaveer Singh, confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on the family’s complaint, and a further investigation is underway. The man’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and police are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.

This incident is not an isolated one, as there have been previous reports of similar tragedies at de-addiction centers in the region. Past investigations have uncovered horrifying conditions, with patients allegedly subjected to physical abuse and neglect in the name of treatment. Authorities have in the past busted several illegal rehabilitation centers operating without proper licenses, highlighting a systemic issue in the oversight and regulation of such facilities.
