Bhubaneswar Police Nab Duo in Multi-State Burglaries

Two men from Northeast Delhi have been arrested in Bhubaneswar for allegedly leading a burglary network responsible for a string of high-value break-ins across six Indian states. The suspects, identified as 48-year-old Khursheed Khan and 28-year-old Mohammed Aarif, are accused of targeting residences in Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh over four months.

According to police, the duo carried out more than 50 burglaries during this time, often selecting affluent neighborhoods and well-furnished homes as their targets. Investigators believe the men had a well-coordinated method, traveling between states to avoid detection while systematically dismantling security measures before entering homes.

Authorities reported that a significant portion of the stolen valuables, particularly gold jewelry, was quickly moved to Delhi for sale. This strategy allowed the suspects to convert stolen goods into cash before police could trace the stolen property. During the operation that led to their arrest, police recovered approximately ₹18 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds from recent burglaries.

The arrests followed an intensive investigation led by the Bhubaneswar police, who had been tracking a pattern of similar burglaries across multiple jurisdictions. Coordination with law enforcement agencies in other states was key to identifying the suspects. Surveillance footage, mobile phone tracking, and financial transaction analysis reportedly played a significant role in connecting the men to the series of crimes.

Police stated that Khan and Aarif were not acting alone and are believed to be part of a larger organized network of burglars. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the gang, as well as individuals who purchased stolen property. Authorities are also reviewing unsolved burglary cases in the six affected states to determine whether the suspects were involved.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects traveled extensively to identify potential targets, often posing as service workers or conducting casual inquiries to gather information about homeowners’ routines. They allegedly operated during hours when residents were either at work or away on vacation, ensuring minimal risk of confrontation.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that the arrests mark a significant step in dismantling an interstate burglary syndicate that has caused considerable financial loss to homeowners. They also urged residents to adopt stronger home security measures, including installing surveillance systems, securing valuables in bank lockers, and notifying neighbors or local authorities when leaving homes unattended for extended periods.

The recovered cash will be held as evidence while police work on tracing additional stolen assets. Authorities are also liaising with jewelry shops and gold dealers in Delhi to track any remaining stolen property that may have been sold.Police confirmed that both suspects have been booked under multiple charges, including housebreaking, theft, and possession of stolen property. They remain in custody as further investigations continue. The operation reflects ongoing efforts by state police forces to strengthen interstate coordination in tackling organized crime, particularly theft rings that operate across multiple regions.
