14 IEDs, Grenades Recovered in Major Anti-Naxal Operation in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum

Security forces seized a significant cache of explosives, including 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and grenades, during a major anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Friday.

The operation, carried out jointly by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand Police, took place in the forested areas of Tonto and Goilkera, regions known for heightened Naxal activity. Acting on credible intelligence, the teams launched a combing operation aimed at disrupting Maoist movements and safeguarding upcoming infrastructure projects.

According to official sources, security personnel discovered 14 IEDs, two grenades, and other explosive materials carefully concealed along forest trails and near strategic points, likely intended to target patrolling units and disrupt civilian development works.

“The explosives were expertly defused by the bomb disposal squad to prevent any accidental detonation. This seizure is a major setback to Naxal plans in the region,” said a senior CRPF official.

Officials believe the recoveries were intended to target forces and impede road construction under government-led connectivity initiatives in the area. West Singhbhum is one of the districts where Left Wing Extremism (LWE) remains active, and regular operations are conducted to neutralize such threats.

The latest recovery follows a string of successful anti-Naxal drives in the region, where intensified surveillance and ground intelligence have led to the discovery and neutralization of dozens of IEDs over recent months.

Jharkhand Police officials emphasized the importance of sustained joint operations to clear areas of insurgent influence. “We are committed to ensuring safety and development. These recoveries are crucial in securing local communities and preventing loss of life,” a district police spokesperson stated.

Authorities have stepped up security in surrounding areas, and combing operations are ongoing to trace the origin of the explosives and identify those responsible for planting them.
