Township Planned for Ambedkar Layout Residents in Mysuru

Karnataka Social Welfare Minister and Mysuru District Minister H.C. Mahadevappa has announced plans to develop a dedicated township for residents of Ambedkar Layout in Ashokapuram. The township will be built on a 20-acre site, either within the Mysuru city limits or in a nearby area, to address long-standing housing concerns for the locality’s working-class families.

Mahadevappa said discussions are underway with the local tahsildar and the Mysuru Development Authority to identify a suitable location. The proposed township is aimed at providing planned housing, essential amenities, and secure property rights to eligible residents.

The announcement was made during an event at Ambedkar Bhavan in Ashokapuram on the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. The minister also confirmed that ₹1 crore has been sanctioned for the renovation of the community hall in the area, along with ₹20 crore for completing the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan.

Former MLA M.K. Somashekar, who was present at the event, emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional values and promoting secular and scientific thinking in the community. He urged residents to use rational thought as a tool for empowerment and social progress.

Ambedkar Layout in Ashokapuram is home to many lower-income households, with several residents living in informal housing arrangements. Rising population density has increased pressure on available land and infrastructure, while many families still lack secure tenure and access to basic civic facilities.

The planned township is expected to address these challenges by offering formal housing, improved infrastructure, and better connectivity. It will form part of Mysuru’s broader urban development vision, which includes the Nava Mysuru Nirmana project aimed at expanding city limits, improving public amenities, and ensuring inclusive growth.

Officials stated that the location for the township will be finalized soon after surveys and consultations. The Mysuru Development Authority will then begin site planning, with the project to be executed in phases.

The initiative seeks to provide dignified living conditions for Ambedkar Layout residents while contributing to Mysuru’s efforts to promote sustainable and socially inclusive urban development.
