Residents across Haryana are being advised to “be aware” as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated locations, set to persist until Thursday, July 24, 2025. This warning follows an orange alert for intense showers on Monday, indicating a continuing active monsoon phase across the region and urging the public to prepare for potential disruptions.

The yellow alert signifies that while the weather conditions may not be immediately life-threatening, they have the potential to worsen and disrupt daily activities. This level of warning is particularly relevant during the monsoon season, when heavy downpours can lead to localized flooding, waterlogging, and increased risks on roads. The IMD uses a four-tiered, color-coded system, Green (no advisory), Yellow (be aware), Orange (be prepared), and Red (take action), to communicate the severity of weather events.

According to the latest IMD forecast released on Monday, districts including Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, and Yamunanagar are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall. Some areas within these districts could even witness very heavy downpours. This anticipated precipitation could lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas, potentially impacting traffic flow and daily commutes.

Beyond the immediate vicinity of Gurgaon, moderate rainfall is also anticipated in Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, and Panipat. While these showers are expected to bring much-needed relief from the prevailing humidity, they also carry the risk of localized flooding. Further south, in Gurgaon itself, along with Sonipat, Jind, Rewari, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Faridabad, Mewat, and Palwal, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at a few places.

An IMD official urged residents and local authorities in these affected regions to remain vigilant. The advisory recommends preparing for potential waterlogging, anticipating minor disruptions in services, and closely monitoring official weather updates. While this fresh bout of monsoon activity is likely to contribute to a noticeable drop in temperatures and an improvement in air quality, the public is advised to consider avoiding unnecessary travel, especially during periods of heavy rain, to ensure safety.

As the monsoon trough remains active over various parts of India, including the northwestern plains, weather patterns are dynamic. The yellow alert serves as a timely reminder for communities to take precautionary measures, secure outdoor belongings, and stay informed through official channels. The coming days will test the region’s preparedness for monsoon-related challenges, with the focus remaining on minimizing inconvenience and ensuring public safety.
