The Maharashtra government has sanctioned a major investment of ₹1,732 crore aimed at upgrading the state’s land survey operations and enhancing infrastructure in its revenue and land records departments.

As part of this initiative, ₹132 crore will be used to purchase 1,200 advanced rovers under the e-Survey 2.0 project. These rovers are equipped with digital technology to conduct faster and more accurate land measurements. The move is expected to improve the delivery of digital “C” copies of land records to citizens. The government plans to eventually acquire 4,000 such rovers, starting with the first batch of 1,200.

In addition to the technological upgrade, ₹1,600 crore has been earmarked for building new offices and residential quarters for revenue officials. A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar approved the proposals. The plan includes relocating land records offices closer to district collectorates to improve operational efficiency.

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that the new infrastructure and deployment of rovers would not only streamline administrative tasks but also help in curbing illegal activities, including unauthorized sand mining. The enhanced tools and facilities are expected to significantly modernize the working capacity of revenue departments across the state.

Furthermore, officials have been directed to complete the long-delayed Registration Bhavan project in Pune within the current month.

This investment reflects Maharashtra’s broader push towards digitization and modernization in its land and revenue administration. The updated systems aim to provide faster and more transparent services to the public while supporting better governance and regulatory compliance.
