India’s PTC Industries Steps Up as Global Aerospace Relies on New Titanium and Superalloy Hub

In a significant stride for India’s burgeoning private defense sector, PTC Industries is establishing a sprawling complex of four manufacturing plants in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, specifically designed for the production of titanium and superalloys. This strategic move, involving an investment of approximately ₹1,000 crore, aims to cater not only to India’s burgeoning defense needs but also to meet a critical global demand, attracting major international players like SAFRAN, Dassault Aviation, and BAE Systems.

These specialized materials, titanium and superalloys, primarily nickel and cobalt-based, are indispensable for high-temperature applications in defense manufacturing, particularly in aerospace engines. The global supply chain for these critical materials has faced significant disruptions, notably from the Russia-Ukraine conflict and a broader desire among Western companies to diversify away from Chinese and Russian sources. This confluence of factors has created a unique opportunity for India to emerge as a reliable alternative supplier.

PTC Industries, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Aerolloy Technologies Limited, has already begun supplying titanium parts to BAE Systems for its M-777 ultra-lightweight howitzers. Furthermore, the company has secured long-term contracts with prominent global vendors. Sachin Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of PTC Industries, highlighted the scope of these partnerships, stating, “The deal with Safran is not just for defense engines but their civil ones. We have signed a contract with Dassault Aviation. All the titanium casting that goes on Rafale [aircraft] will one day be ours.”

The new complex will feature a metals factory for titanium and superalloy production, a large forging unit, a facility for making components, and a machining factory for finished parts. One of the key highlights is Aerolloy Technologies’ new titanium remelting plant, inaugurated in May 2025, which boasts an annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes, making it one of the world’s largest single-site titanium remelting facilities. This plant utilizes advanced metallurgical technologies such as Vacuum Arc Re-Melting (VAR), Electron Beam (EB) melting, Plasma Arc Melting (PAM), and Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM), ensuring the high purity and uniform alloying crucial for aerospace applications.

This integrated approach, spanning from base material production to high-end aerospace parts, positions India as a significant player in a highly specialized global market. By reducing reliance on imports for these critical materials and fostering domestic production, PTC Industries is playing a pivotal role in strengthening India’s “Make in India” initiative and its aspirations to become a global defense manufacturing hub. The ongoing expansion of such advanced manufacturing capabilities will be crucial for India’s self-reliance in aerospace and defense, while also offering a vital alternative to the global supply chain.
