The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully carried out two consecutive flight tests of the indigenously developed Pralay missile, a tactical quasi-ballistic surface-to-surface missile. The tests were conducted on July 28 and 29 on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

These user-evaluation trials were aimed at validating the missile’s full range envelope and demonstrated highly accurate performance. The tests confirmed the missile’s capability to strike targets at both minimum and maximum range limits with precision. All mission objectives were achieved, and the missile’s subsystems functioned as expected. The missile was tracked through a network of sensors, radars, electro-optical systems, and telemetry stations deployed by the Integrated Test Range and onboard naval assets.

Pralay is a solid-fuel, road-mobile missile designed to deliver conventional warheads with high accuracy at ranges between 150 to 500 kilometers. The missile is equipped with advanced guidance systems and has the ability to perform mid-course corrections, enhancing its effectiveness in contested environments.

The DRDO developed the system in collaboration with key laboratories such as the Research Centre Imarat, Advanced Systems Laboratory, and Defence Research and Development Laboratory. Several industry partners, including Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, played crucial roles in its production, along with contributions from multiple MSMEs.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry stakeholders for the successful tests. He described Pralay as a significant boost to India’s tactical strike capabilities and underlined its importance in strengthening battlefield deterrence.

DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat congratulated all the teams involved, emphasizing that the success of these trials marks a major step forward toward the missile’s induction into the Indian Armed Forces.

The trials were witnessed by officials from the Indian Army and Air Force, alongside senior DRDO scientists and representatives from the industry. With the completion of this test phase, Pralay is set to enhance India’s short-range precision strike arsenal and contribute to national security readiness.
