Delhi to Get First International-Standard Ice Skating Rink in Dwarka

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will set up the city’s first international-standard ice skating rink at the Dwarka Sector 23 Sports Complex, with completion targeted for October 2025. The climate-controlled facility will cover 4,200 square metres and feature a 60 × 30 metre rink built to global specifications.

The rink will be located within the cloverleaf junction of the Dwarka Expressway and near the IGI Airport tunnel, ensuring easy accessibility from major transport routes. The project will be developed on a 15-year licence basis in collaboration with international partners through a joint venture or special purpose vehicle under the DDA’s supervision.

Designed to serve both recreational visitors and professional athletes, the facility will support ice sports such as figure skating, ice hockey, and curling. The DDA aims to use the venue for leisure activities, training programmes, and competitive events.

This initiative is part of the DDA’s broader plan to transform Dwarka into a modern sub-city with world-class sports and recreational infrastructure. In recent years, the authority has developed centres for excellence in various sports, including boxing, athletics, hockey, and tennis.

A senior DDA official said the ice skating rink will fill a significant gap in Delhi’s sports infrastructure by providing year-round indoor recreation and a training venue for emerging ice sports. The facility will add to the list of amenities offered at DDA sports complexes, which include football fields, athletics tracks, tennis courts, and swimming facilities.

Construction will begin soon, with the appointed agency responsible for both building and operational management. Officials say the rink will not only attract recreational users but also help nurture sporting talent and host training sessions for national-level athletes.

The opening of Delhi’s first international-standard ice skating rink is expected to be a landmark moment for the capital’s sports and leisure scene, offering residents a new avenue for recreation and competitive sport.
