Centre Approves 2.6-Km Metro Extension in Greater Noida

The Central government has officially approved a 2.6-kilometre extension of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro line, aimed at improving last-mile connectivity in the fast-growing urban region of Uttar Pradesh. The new extension will connect the existing Sector 51 station in Noida to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida.

This decision comes after months of planning and collaboration between the Central and Uttar Pradesh state governments. The project is expected to boost connectivity for thousands of daily commuters, especially students and professionals who work in Greater Noida’s IT and educational hubs.

The estimated cost of the project is ₹1,100 crore, and it will be jointly funded by the Centre and the state government. According to officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the new corridor will include two additional stations, Sector 122 and Sector 123,  and will eventually link to the Aqua Line, further integrating the region’s transit systems.

Officials say the extension will improve access to important institutional areas and reduce reliance on personal vehicles, helping to ease traffic congestion and lower pollution levels in the region. The project is expected to be completed within the next two to three years.

“The Centre’s approval is a significant step toward expanding metro infrastructure in the National Capital Region,” said an official from the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). “It shows the commitment to creating a more connected and sustainable transport network for the future.”

The announcement has been well received by residents, urban planners, and real estate developers. Many believe the metro extension will lead to a further rise in property values and commercial activity along the new route. Local residents also expressed hope that the metro link would bring long-awaited relief from traffic bottlenecks and improve commuting options.
