Mathura’s Assistant GST Commissioner, Anubhav Singh, died in a tragic road accident on the Agra–Lucknow Expressway in Kannauj district on Tuesday. The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, also left his wife and driver with serious injuries. Both are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

According to initial police reports, Singh was travelling with his wife and driver from Mathura when their vehicle met with the accident on a stretch of the expressway near Talgram police station limits in Kannauj. Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene and transported all three occupants to the nearest medical facility. Singh was declared dead shortly after arrival, while the two survivors were stabilised before being shifted to a higher‑care facility.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash. Preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle may have lost control due to sudden braking or a possible tyre burst, though these details have not yet been confirmed. Officials are also examining CCTV footage from traffic monitoring systems along the expressway to piece together the sequence of events.

The Agra Lucknow Expressway, a high‑speed corridor connecting central and western Uttar Pradesh, has been a critical route for commuters and commercial transport. However, the highway has also seen several high‑profile accidents in recent years, prompting repeated calls for stricter enforcement of speed limits and enhanced safety measures.

Anubhav Singh, remembered by colleagues as a dedicated officer, had been serving in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department in Mathura for several years. His work in tax compliance and enforcement earned him respect among peers and within the business community.

Local officials, including senior GST department members, expressed deep sorrow over Singh’s death. This is a profound loss to the department. Singh was known for his professionalism, commitment, and integrity, said a senior GST officer from Lucknow.

The Kannauj police confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in connection with the accident, and a forensic team has been deployed to inspect the vehicle for mechanical faults. We are pursuing all angles, including possible overspeeding or driver fatigue, said a police spokesperson.

Singh’s body was transferred to the district hospital for a post‑mortem examination, which is expected to help clarify whether any medical emergency contributed to the incident. Family members have been informed, and funeral arrangements are being coordinated in Mathura.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has reiterated its advice to motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations on high‑speed corridors, particularly during the monsoon season when road conditions can deteriorate quickly.

The sudden loss of the 38‑year‑old officer has cast a shadow over the GST department in Uttar Pradesh. His colleagues have pledged support to his family during this period of grief, while the injured survivors continue to receive medical care.
