An Indian Army soldier was killed and two others were injured in a landmine blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday, during a routine patrol operation. The incident, which occurred in the Krishna Ghati sector, highlights the persistent threats faced by Indian security personnel in the region.

The soldier, identified as Agniveer Lalit Kumar of the 7th Battalion, Jat Regiment (7 JAT), was on an area domination patrol when the landmine detonated. Agniveer is a rank under the Agnipath scheme, aimed at short-term recruitment into the Indian armed forces. The explosion took place during an operational task designed to secure the high-risk terrain from infiltration and illegal activities across the LoC.

Following the incident, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, which oversees military operations in the Jammu region, paid tribute to the fallen soldier. In a statement posted on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), they wrote, “General Officer Commanding (GOC) White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT Regiment, who made the supreme sacrifice, while on an area domination patrol in the general area of Krishna Ghati brigade on 25 July 2025, following a mine blast. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

The two injured soldiers were promptly evacuated and are currently under medical care. While the Indian Army routinely conducts patrols in this volatile border area, incidents like this reflect the ever-present danger posed by legacy mines and hostile activity across the LoC.

The Krishna Ghati sector has long been a flashpoint for ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts by hostile elements. Landmines remain a significant risk to Indian troops even during peacetime operations, underscoring the importance of sustained vigilance and advanced counter-mine measures.

This tragic loss serves as a reminder of the courage and dedication displayed by the Indian Army in safeguarding the nation’s frontiers. Despite the risks, soldiers continue to carry out their duties with unwavering commitment to national security.

As the nation mourns the sacrifice of Agniveer Lalit Kumar, the Indian Army reaffirmed its resolve to stand firm against any threat and to honour those who give their lives in service of the country.
