Ludhiana Extends Property Tax Settlement Scheme Deadline to August 15

The Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana has extended the deadline for its one-time property tax settlement scheme from July 31 to August 15, giving property owners additional time to clear pending dues without penalty or interest.

The scheme, launched on May 15, allows residents to pay overdue property taxes dating back to 2013–14 with a full waiver on penalties and interest if payment is made by the deadline. Under the revised timeline, payments made after August 15 but before October 31 will qualify for a 50 percent waiver on penalties and interest. After October 31, full penalties and interest will apply, including a 20 percent penalty and 18 percent annual interest on the outstanding amount.

Municipal officials said the extension was prompted by a surge of last-minute taxpayers at civic centres. The scheme has so far collected around ₹15 crore in overdue taxes, contributing to nearly ₹40 crore in total property tax revenue for the current financial year.

Municipal Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal urged residents to take advantage of the extended deadline to settle their dues. He directed zonal and assistant commissioners to facilitate payments and improve collection efficiency. To accommodate the rush, Zonal Suvidha Kendras were kept open over the weekend of July 26–27.

The civic body is also offering a 10 percent rebate on current-year property tax payments made before September 30, providing an added incentive for timely payment. Officials expect the extension to boost collections and improve compliance.

While the scheme has been welcomed by many taxpayers, some residents have raised concerns about frequent extensions and waivers that could encourage delays in payment and affect the municipal corporation’s long-term revenue planning.

The Municipal Corporation has appealed to the public to make use of the scheme before the final deadline, emphasizing that this is an opportunity to settle long-standing dues under favorable terms.
