Haryana Governor Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, marking one of his first high‑level interactions since assuming the gubernatorial role. The meeting showed the importance of close coordination between the state leadership and the central government on matters of governance and development.

Professor Ghosh, who recently took charge as the 19th Governor of Haryana, succeeded Bandaru Dattatreya after being appointed by President Droupadi Murmu. A seasoned academic and veteran of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ghosh brings with him decades of experience in both education and public service. He previously taught political science for nearly four decades at Shri Shikshayatan College in Kolkata and led various research projects under the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

His political career within the BJP began in 1991, and he rose steadily through the ranks, serving as state secretary, vice‑president, and later president of the West Bengal unit. Known for his organizational skills and low‑profile but effective leadership style, Ghosh played a key role in building the party’s base in a state where the BJP then had limited presence. He also served as a party observer in Tripura and was a member of the BJP’s national executive.

Upon taking office as Governor, Ghosh pledged to uphold the Constitution, work for the welfare of the people of Haryana, and ensure cooperation between the Raj Bhavan and the state government. His swearing‑in ceremony at the Haryana Raj Bhavan was attended by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, senior officials, and dignitaries. The event included a Guard of Honour presented by the Haryana Armed Police.

Political observers see his appointment as both recognition of his long service to the party and an acknowledgment of his administrative and academic credentials. Leaders from West Bengal and Haryana have lauded his commitment to public service, intellectual depth, and ability to work across diverse political and social contexts.

The meeting with Prime Minister Modi is viewed as a step toward aligning the state’s developmental priorities with national objectives. With his combined background in academia and politics, Ghosh is expected to bring a measured, informed approach to the Governor’s role, fostering stability and constructive engagement between the state and the center.
