Pakistan Pleaded for Ceasefire After India’s Swift Operation, Says PM Modi

In a pointed address to Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi detailed how Pakistan sought an urgent ceasefire following a swift and calculated military response by India under Operation Sindoor. Speaking in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament), PM Modi offered a rare glimpse into India’s strategic planning and military precision, emphasizing that the objective was achieved without escalation and with clear intent.

During his response to the Operation Sindoor debate, PM Modi targeted opposition leaders while recounting the sequence of events surrounding India’s military retaliation. He shared that Pakistan, overwhelmed by the scale and impact of India’s action, directly contacted India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) with a plea to halt further attacks. Quoting the Pakistani side, Modi said, “Bas karo, bohot maara, ab zyada maar jhelne ki taakat nahi hai,” translated as, “Stop now, you beat us badly, we cannot take any more.”

Operation Sindoor was India’s answer to an attack that occurred on April 22. Within just 22 minutes, Indian forces reportedly struck non-military targets with surgical precision on the night of May 6-7. According to PM Modi, this swift retaliation left Pakistan stunned and effectively ended any thoughts of a counteroffensive, despite earlier threats involving nuclear posturing.

Responding to criticism from Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi, who accused the government of lacking international support and political resolve, PM Modi pushed back firmly. He stated that no international leader advised India to halt the operation and dismissed claims that India stood diplomatically isolated. “No leader in the world told India to stop the operation,” he emphasized.

He further revealed that during the operation, the Vice President of the United States attempted to contact him, warning of a potential large-scale Pakistani retaliation. “My response was, ‘If this is Pakistan’s intention, then it will cost them heavily,’” PM Modi recalled.

Taking a swipe at the Congress party’s leadership, Modi criticized them for their skepticism towards India’s armed forces and institutions. He accused them of not trusting their own government’s ability to act decisively and independently. “Those who ruled for so many years can’t trust the functioning of the Government of India. They are remote-controlled by Pakistan,” he asserted.

The Prime Minister’s remarks underlined the government’s confidence in both its military capabilities and political strategy. By drawing attention to the operation’s success and Pakistan’s reaction, Modi aimed to reinforce India’s posture of strength on national security matters, while countering narratives that questioned its diplomatic and defense readiness.

Operation Sindoor, as PM Modi laid out, was a calibrated and non-escalatory response that served its purpose, sending a strong message to those who threaten India’s sovereignty while reaffirming the country’s stance that peace is welcomed. Still, strength will always be shown when provoked.
