The 14th edition of the India-Singapore Joint Military Exercise, “Bold Kurukshetra 2025,” commenced on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Jodhpur. This vital bilateral drill, scheduled to run until August 4, aims to significantly enhance interoperability and strengthen defense cooperation between the armies of both nations, particularly under a United Nations mandate. The exercise highlights the deepening strategic partnership between India and Singapore in the Indo-Pacific region.

This year’s iteration of Exercise Bold Kurukshetra focuses on validating operational procedures for mechanized warfare through a series of tabletop exercises and computer-based wargames. Participants include the 42nd Singapore Armoured Regiment of the 4th Singapore Armoured Brigade and a Mechanized Infantry Regiment from the Indian Army. The emphasis on simulated combat scenarios allows both forces to refine their tactics and strategies in a controlled environment, crucial for modern military engagements.

The opening ceremony in Jodhpur was marked by the presence of senior military officers from both sides. Colonel Arjun Ganapathi, Commanding Officer of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, is leading the Indian contingent, while Lieutenant Colonel Khiew Zhi Yoong, Battalion Commander of the 42 Singapore Armoured Regiment, is heading the Singaporean team. A symbolic handing over of the Regimental Flag from the Singaporean contingent to the Indian side underscored the collaborative spirit and formal transfer of command for the duration of the exercise.

Exercise Bold Kurukshetra, first conducted in 2005, has consistently served as a platform for sharing best practices, doctrines, and operational experiences. It reflects a robust and long-standing bilateral defense relationship, which also includes other joint exercises such as the naval exercise SIMBEX and various air force and special forces trainings. These sustained engagements are part of India’s “Act East Policy” and Singapore’s broader security strategy, contributing to regional stability and collective preparedness in the Indo-Pacific.

The exercise will culminate in an equipment display by the Indian Army, further facilitating mutual understanding of capabilities. Such joint drills are instrumental in preparing both armies to operate cohesively in diverse and challenging situations, underscoring the mutual commitment of India and Singapore to a secure and stable regional environment.
