Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited troops stationed in Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield, where he reunited with soldiers from his former unit. The visit highlighted India’s commitment to its defense forces and reaffirmed a no-nonsense approach to national security.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi made a significant visit to a forward post in Siachen, Jammu and Kashmir, the highest and one of the most challenging military deployment zones in the world. His presence was both symbolic and personal, as he met with troops of the 18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (18 JAK RIF), the same battalion he was once commissioned into and had previously commanded.

The Indian Army highlighted the moment on its official social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), sharing that General Dwivedi reunited with seven Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) who had once served under his leadership. This personal connection not only added emotional weight to the visit but also served as a reminder of the enduring camaraderie and continuity in India’s armed forces.

A day before the visit, General Dwivedi addressed the nation at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass during the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas. There, he announced the creation of a new all-arms brigade, named ‘Rudra.’ This brigade, approved just the day before, marks a strategic enhancement in India’s defense infrastructure and highlights the Army’s focus on integrated and rapid response capabilities.

General Dwivedi’s remarks during his address were pointed and clear. Referring to Operation Sindoor, he stated that India’s military responses are now more resolute and exact, particularly in dealing with cross-border terrorism. He emphasized that those who support or facilitate acts of terror will face a strong and precise retaliation. This approach echoes India’s growing intolerance for acts that threaten national sovereignty and civilian safety.

He also responded to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, condemning the cowardice of the perpetrators. General Dwivedi pointed out that the armed forces acted swiftly and decisively, backed by the trust of the Indian public and the strategic latitude granted by the government.

In visiting Siachen and affirming the nation’s military strength and preparedness, General Dwivedi reinforced a message of national unity, operational readiness, and a firm stance against any threats to India’s security. His actions and statements align with a broader principle: peace is best ensured through strength and clarity of purpose.
