Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a prominent Indian public sector defence undertaking, has received a substantial domestic order valued at ₹809 crore (gross) from Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL). This significant contract, announced on Friday, July 25, 2025, is for the supply of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) and is slated for execution over three years, further solidifying BDL’s critical role in India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem.

The order, while specific details remain confidential due to national security considerations, is widely believed by industry sources to be for the Konkurs-M ATGM. This second-generation, wire-guided missile system is a vital component of the Indian Army’s armored infantry vehicles, particularly the BMP-II. BDL manufactures the Konkurs-M under license, having achieved significant indigenization of the system, including its launchers and test equipment, in line with India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) initiative. The Konkurs-M is known for its precision against heavily armored targets and has an engagement range of 75 to 4,000 meters, capable of operating in both day and night conditions.

Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), itself a government-owned public sector defence undertaking established in 2021, plays a pivotal role in India’s land defense capabilities. AVNL is primarily responsible for the manufacture of main battle tanks (MBTs), infantry combat vehicles, and other armored fighting vehicles for the Indian Armed Forces. Their product portfolio includes the T-72, T-90, and Arjun tanks, as well as specialized vehicles like Mine Protected Vehicles (MPVs) and Bridge Layer Tanks. This order from AVNL underscores the interdependencies within India’s burgeoning indigenous defense industry, where various public sector units collaborate to meet the nation’s strategic requirements.

This latest contract adds to BDL’s already robust order book, which stood at ₹22,700 crore as of April 1, 2025. The company has secured orders worth ₹6,668 crore in the current fiscal year (FY 2025) alone, highlighting a strong demand for its missile systems and allied defense equipment. The multi-year execution timeline for this new order provides BDL with a stable revenue stream and allows for efficient production planning.

The continued flow of significant orders to BDL reinforces its position as a key supplier of advanced missile systems to the Indian Armed Forces. Such contracts are crucial for enhancing India’s defense preparedness and fostering greater self-reliance in critical military technologies. As India continues to prioritize indigenous defense production, BDL’s role in equipping the armed forces with cutting-edge weaponry will remain central to the nation’s security objectives.
